The water softener hasn't been pickled for half a year. Is it still useful to add soft water salt now?

According to the working principle of a water softener, salt is merely used to reduce the resin's ability to replace calcium and magnesium ions. Therefore, soft water salt is called an ion exchange resin regenerant. If no salt is added, the following situations will occur.

1. Your own water consumption is low and you haven't added salt for half a year. However, the newly purchased machine has a certain resin replacement capacity, so the resin replacement ability is still there. So, the water you release is still normal softened water.

2. The resin has lost its ability to displace calcium and magnesium ions, and its regeneration capacity cannot be restored through backwashing with brine. The water softener is just for decoration; it only uses tap water from the water softener.

As long as your machine is in good condition and the backwash setting is correct, if you add salt again, the machine will work normally. Please don't worry that the resin has a long lifespan.
